Hello again!

This blog post is going to be my last one for this semester. We have come to the end of this semester with many classes, and assignments :)

For my last blog post, I will be reviewing the course.

The reason why we have this course is to integrate technology in our teaching. And I believe that it was made successfully. To be completely honest, at first I thought this course was very unnecessary. I just felt like we all knew how to use technology anyway. Yet, I can assure you that I did not! I mean, I have learnt many things from this course. There were many tools that I had to use. I spent so much time trying to figure them out, but at the end of the day, I know how to create a blog page, how to use infographics in my future classes, how to edit a podcast, and so on. Not only that, but I also learnt so many things about copyrights, which is very useful.

Other than that, I think I always knew that one day I will be using technology in my classes, but I had no idea that there were that many ways of using it. I also learnt, and experienced different websites. For example, in our last class my instructor showed us some learning tools, such as sesame and magic school. I would have probably never heard of them if I did not have this course.

And about my favorite and least favorite tasks..

I think my favorite was creating a digital story. Although I do not like collaborative tasks, this was fun to do. My friend and I chose to show some ways to learn words. It was also an easy one since we both had our ideas already. I believe it was the only task that I already had an idea about.

My least favorite was definitely the film review.. It was really hard to find group members, and try to decide on a film. Maybe it was because I did not know the other two girls, but we really had a hard time deciding on many things.

Lastly, my suggestions about the course..

I guess the last assignment was really long :) I really did not enjoy doing it. Maybe we could skip the review part. And, I did not like that we had to have a collaborative task. I just felt like it was not necessary. But honestly, that was all.

So, thank you for reading all my posts.

See you later!

Best,

Åžeyma.

Hello everyone!

Today, I had a bit of a different assignment. It had so many steps, and for me it was confusing at first. But I have managed to compete!

For this task, I started to use Chat GPT in the first place. I asked him to pretend that I was talking to the main character of the novel White Nights by Dostoyevski. Just to make it clear, in the novel the main character is a man, but we do not know his name. So, I could not use a name for him during the whole process. Anyway, the conversation with Chat GPT was quite fun. I felt like he had the same type of answers of the character, which was really surprising. I really liked the way it gave me long answers, because that is the behaviour of the character in the book. The only problem with Chat GPT is that I did not have the premium version, so I could not maintain the questions for a longer time. But, that was not a big upset for me.

After that, I used Magic School’s AI tool. Was it that good? I don’t think so. I felt like the answer it gave me was not that good. I do not think I had the mistakes the tool told me to correct.

So, would I use the same tools in my teaching practice? Absolutely, yes! Maybe not Magic School’s AI tool, but there are many types of tools just like that.

I think having a conversation with a character that you like is a very motivating experience. I believe many of the students would enjoy this part as homework. Therefore, using AI for this type of homeworks is beneficial. Yet, there may be some problems accruing. As far as I know from the news, many of the kids can not differentiate between AI and reality after some time. So, I would be concerned for my younger students.

All in all, this assignment was a bit too long but fun!

See you all.

Best,

Åžeyma.

Hello everyone!

This week's task was to review a movie as a group.

We started off with finding some teammates. After that we tried to choose a good film, so that everyone would be satisfied. There were so many ideas, yet we decided on the Inception. Other step was creating a Google Docs file. We made sure that everyone was an editor, not a commenter or anything else. After that everyone wrote their own part. As last step, we shared the file with another group, so that they could comment on our film review. This time they were authorized as commenter, as we were for their Google Doc.

I can definitely say that using Google Doc as a writing tool was not hard at all. Everything was really clear, and it was not hard to understand.

Other thing is that this task was kind of hard to complete, since I had to work with more than one person. I am someone who loves doing things alone, but I had to step out of my comfort zone to complete the task. Although it was hard to decide at first, I think we found a way to succesfully communicate.

I completed this task with Perihan, Aslı and Beyza. You can see their blogs as well!

And here is the comments on our document.

That was all.

I hope you enjoy reading the review.

See you next time.

Best,

Åžeyma.
